Physician Biography
Dr. Ciara Huntington still has her St. Luke's volunteer badge from decades ago when she grew up in Boise, Idaho and dreamed of being a doctor. Since then, she has traveled the world, providing medical care in Mongolia and sub-Sarahan Africa, gained a top notch surgical education, lectured nationally and internationally with 30+ scientific publications, and has found her calling in a life in surgery. Graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine and alumnus of the Carolinas Medical Center General Surgery Residency & Center for Advanced Laparoscopy and Surgical Practice, Dr. Ciara Huntington is thrilled to call Boise home once again. Working with her dad, Dr. Thomas Huntington, is a dream come true for this Idaho native. When not taking care of patients or doing surgical outcomes research, you'll find Dr. Huntington enjoying fly-fishing, looking for chukars with her gun dog, out on ski slopes, and spending time with friends & family.
Dr. Ciara Huntington performs over 350 laparoscopic foregut operations (esophagus and stomach) yearly including hiatal hernia repair, paraesophageal hernia repair, redo-fundoplications, redo hiatal hernia hernia repair, and Heller myotomy. She is considered a "high volume" surgeon for laparoscopic adrenalectomy, performing a large number of these complex cases each year. Hernia repair, thanks to her training at the Carolinas Medical Center, is another area of interest for Dr. Huntington. Dr Huntington is proud to work closely with St. Luke's Cancer Institute (formerly MSTI) to provide compassionate surgical care for cancer patients, especially those with gastric and esophageal cancer.
Dr. Huntington is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and an active member of the American College of Surgeons and SAGES (Society for American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons).
