National Experts to Examine Changing Dynamics in Idaho Health Care

Boise, ID, September 21, 2012— National dynamics playing out in Idaho health care and the need to protect patient choice will be the focus topics of a forum of industry experts involving Treasure Valley physicians, policy-makers and health care executives Saturday, September 22 at the Grove Hotel.

Three recognized national opinion-leaders in health care will share their insights, and then convene a panel discussion on some of the most compelling issues facing patients, physicians, and administrators as health care dynamics continue to evolve. Many of the Boise area’s most influential health care professionals, legislators and other leaders will be in attendance and participating in a question and answer session.

National speakers at the event are:
• John R. Tongue, M.D.—President, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons
• Henry S. Allen, Jr.—Senior Attorney, American Medical Association
• Goran Dragolovic—Senior Vice President, Surgical Care Affiliates

All three speakers have a substantial interest in the future direction of the health care industry, and in an informed dialogue regarding the decision-making process. Maintaining integral roles for patients and physicians in that process is an important concern as the industry adjusts to mandated reforms and a growing consolidation of health care providers, particularly in the state of Idaho.

“We believe that physicians, especially independent physicians, in charge of driving patient care is the right direction for health care in the future,” says Dr. Jeffrey Hessing, President of The Coalition to Preserve Patient Choice, the presenting sponsor of the event. “Physician-driven Accountable Care Organization (ACO) models are far more successful than those where physicians are not driving the process.”

“The Wall Street Journal’s recent coverage of health care consolidation was headlined, “Same Doctor Visit, Double the Cost,” so there clearly are adverse consequences for patients because of this trend,” Dr. Hessing said. “Patients are surprised to see that the bills from their employed physicians now include a facility fee charge that often doubles their bill.”

A media table will be available for this event, and interview opportunities with the speakers will be provided both before and after the discussion. Media are encouraged to RSVP through the contact information included below.
